Abstract
The most comprehensive account of traditional African perceptions of and interaction with the other-than-human world is contained in South African (Zulu) traditional health practitioner Credo Mutwa’s book Isilwane: The Animal, where he stresses that in the past, African people did not regard themselves as being above the animals, trees, fish and birds.
