Abstract
When I was little, a witch lived on our road. At least, that is what some of the children on our road said. This witch was an old lady who lived in the basement flat of a house on the corner, and my friend Lizzie told me that she had been going past her window one evening and could see straight into her house and she was clearly a witch. What Lizzie had actually seen through the window remained uncertain. But the proof that our neighbour was a witch was most definitely visually evident. The children knew she was a witch because of the way she dressed. She did not look like other old ladies. She dressed to be seen, even though she was old.
