Abstract
Zettle (2005) divides the development of ACT into three periods: (1) formative, where an early version of ACT was created; (2) transitional, where, unsatisfied with current accounts of language, Hayes and colleagues established relational frame theory (RFT; Hayes, Barnes-Holmes, & Roche, 2001) as an updated behaviour analytic alternative; and (3) a dissemination and investigative period where ACT was further developed as an evidence-based treatment model.
