Language Acquisition from Online Informal Learning Activities

Part of the New Language Learning and Teaching Environments book series (NLLTE)

In the previous chapters, a picture has been painted of the private world of the online informal learner of English, in terms of activities and from a theoretical standpoint. It has been established that a majority of students surveyed are involved in such activities, many for extended periods. It is also clear that the field can be understood with reference to language learning models which look beyond explicit classroom instruction and the centrality of noticing (Skehan 1998) when seeking to model language acquisition.
