Abstract

This chapter addresses the third future scenario which has a local orientation with a focus on the Commons. In the ‘resilient communities’ scenario there is distributed control over the P2P infrastructures while the focus is mostly on relocalization and the re-creation of local communities. It is often based on an expectation for a future marked by severe shortages of energy and resources, and it often takes the form of lifeboat strategies. However, the resilient communities do not build global structures when the issue, according to Kostakis and Bauwens, is how to organize a global counter-power that can propose alternative modes of social organization on a global scale.
