Abstract
Having outlined in the previous two chapters labels and characteristics associated with public intellectuals as individuals and as groups or classes, this chapter reviews three lists of public intellectuals and the criteria by which they have been assembled. It also includes the results of a questionnaire sent to some of them, with concluding remarks about the status of public intellectuals.
