Abstract
As is shown in detail in the rest of this book, many Asian countries began their process of industrial development through the establishment of an export-oriented textile industry (Sachs 2005, p. 195), and Myanmar follows suit. With its abundant supply of low-wage labor, Myanmar has an apparent comparative advantage in labor-intensive industries. In the country, apparel sewing has been the only manufacturing entity that participates in regional and global production and distribution networks.
