Abstract

This chapter was co-produced by young people and an adult participation worker. Young people from Youthforia Youth Forum were supported to analyse and discuss chapters of three other authors, whose own work focussed on the space for participation and intergenerational dialogue and features in this book. Using Lucas’s work on child language brokering, Johnson’s work on the Change-scape and Billet’s work on public space, this chapter draws out young people’s ideas of power and its connection to dialogue and relationships with adults. It concludes with questions raised by the young people. Does the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child’s (UNCRC) Article 12 go far enough for successful participation? Do adults listen to children and young people and then act, rather just listen and take into account.
