Abstract
Even soothsayers cannot successfully predict the future. Scientists have also frequently been known to make inaccurate predictions. Nevertheless it is helpful to offer some ideas about possible developments so as to prevent ourselves being taken completely by surprise by what occurs in the future. Moreover, there is no need to rely only on untrustworthy speculation, because solid conclusions about the future of evaluation can be drawn from the developments of recent decades, the current state of evaluation and from anticipated social change.
