Abstract
The composition of the House of Commons elected in May 2015 was the most diverse in 100 years. Its diversity was the product of two contrasting forces: one of continuity, the other of change. The continuity lay in the further diversification of its social composition as it more closely reflected the composition of the electorate, especially in terms of gender, ethnicity and sexuality. The increased numbers of women, of ethnic minority MPs and of gay, lesbian and bisexual MPs in 2015 built upon previously record numbers in 2010.
