Abstract
The topic of this chapter is how temporality, identity, and modernity were conceptualized in Danish his tory-writing in the period from 1900 to 1945. The concept of modernity is used pragmatically, referring to history-writing dealing with the historical epoch after the French Revolution. Modernity as a concept that denotes a specific historical epoch was not in use in any of the historical works analyzed here, nor does it seem to have been in use in general discourse. Modernity is the effect of historical narratives, thus my title: Danish historians writing modernity.
