Abstract
Every year, the Department of State sponsors a number of summer institutes in the United States, as part of US diplomatic efforts to reach out to potential leaders abroad. Since 2008, groups of international relations’ scholars from different countries meet in Gainesville, Florida, to attend the Institute on US Foreign Policy. It provides an opportunity for those scholars to interact with one another and learn about different perspectives of US foreign policy from different parts of the globe. Just as it is useful for the international community to gain insight into how different countries are affected by, and respond to, US foreign policy, it is also important for American scholars to be exposed to these foreign perspectives that are too often neglected in the foreign policy debate.
