Abstract
Research offers compelling rationale and evidence for supporting service-learning in community colleges, but starting a service-learning program and sustaining one over the years is easier said than done. A number of premier community college service-learning programs, such as those at Brevard Community College (now Eastern Florida State College), Miami Dade College, and Middlesex Community College, have prospered for more than 20 years. Why is it that some programs take hold and flourish, while others fade away? What can be done to maintain positive momentum in long-standing service-learning programs?
