Abstract
As we were completing this book, British newspapers reported on the findings of a newly published study that had apparently discovered ‘[h]ow the breastfeeding effect altered the British class system’ (Bingham, 2013). It has been ‘revealed’, we were told, that ‘[b]reastfeeding babies improves their chance of climbing the social ladder’ (Cooper, 2013). Journalists in other parts of world repeated the same ‘news’, reporting that ‘[b]reast fed babies achieve higher social status’ (Sifferlin, 2013), and even: ‘Breast fed babies are more socially connected, less anxious, as adults, study finds’ (NY Daily News, 2013).
