Abstract

Guangdong is a province of the PRC. It is located on the northern coast of the South China Sea at the south end of mainland China, with a coastline of about 3,368 km. Its islands add a further 1,600 km2. The Pearl River, which is 2,122 km long — the third largest river in the country — flows through Guangdong and forms a delta region. It is economically comparable to the Yangtze River Delta in eastern China where the region’s economic hub is Shanghai.
