Abstract

This chapter provides an analysis first of the bailout of Long-Term Capital Management in 1998, then of the role of hedge funds in the worst financial crises of recent times. This chapter will thus describe another side of the hedge fund industry; hedge funds have faced difficulties and have also been impacted by crisis periods; in some cases, they have even had an impact on the financial industry as a whole.
