Abstract
When it comes to sex, Brazil is so exotic in Western eyes that anything can be said about it and be believed. Since the early nineteenth century, the country has been synonymous with license—a stereotype that baffles those of us who realize just how conservative Brazilians can be in sexual matters. Reality, it seems, is nowhere near as exciting as the fantasy that there is no sin beneath the equator.
