Abstract
This book has tended to concentrate on the more blatant continuities in education policy-making between the governments of Margaret Thatcher and John Major on the one hand, and those of Tony Blair and Gordon Brown on the other. But it is important to point out that in areas which had little to do with ideology as such, New Labour was anxious to make changes that, it was hoped, would benefit large numbers of pupils.
