Abstract
A newly edited book entitled Pathological Altruism pulled out the ‘big guns’ in psychology and evolution to argue that “Altruism can be the back door to hell” (Oakley et al., 2012, p. 4). The phrase ‘pathological altruism’ is intended to mean that, despite good intentions, a pro-social act can harm the self or others.
