Contributions of Foreign Experts to Chinese Academic Development: A Case Study of Peking University

  • Chapter
Mobility and Migration in Asian Pacific Higher Education

Part of the book series: International and Development Education ((INTDE))

Abstract

Inviting foreign experts to work for education and economic development has been a policy for many years in China, but only recently, two of my graduate students began to study their contributions (Hu 2010; Ma 2011). Two different processes are key to the internationalization of Chinese higher education: faculty circulation and student mobility. In this chapter, faculty circulation refers to foreign experts coming to work, teach, and carry out research in Chinese universities, and student mobility refers to Chinese students and scholars going out to other countries for education and study, as well as international or foreign students coming to China for short-term or long-term study.
