Abstract
In dealing with the question of how inequality is perceived and dealt with in the United States — a country that also purports to guarantee freedom and order — we have looked at the work of a number of social scientists. The ‘inequality narratives’, when treated independently speak for themselves: they reveal how social scientists with different backgrounds and theoretical affiliations attempted to understand social inequality from different observation points in both space and time.
