Abstract
Our study of consumer trust in food starts out with a representative survey of public opinion on food issues across six European countries. Considering all the turbulence around food, we ask in this chapter, what are the levels of popular trust in food in Europe? Is there a widespread distrust, as suggested by all the media attention and political concern? Moreover, are these levels of trust and distrust evenly spread out across various European countries? And if there are differences, where do we find the highest and the lowest levels of trust.
