Abstract
The relationship between the United States and Iran is clearly dysfunctional. It has been fractured by historical tensions and suffers from a variety of current policy impasses. However, it is not beyond repair. Iran and the Middle East are vitally important to U.S. interests. In fact, the authors believe that the relationship is too important to the United States for it to continue along its current path. A more constructive set of policies need to be put into place in order to create an environment that is more conducive to cooperation.
