Geostrategic Resources in Latin America and U.S. Control Mechanisms

  • Chapter
The Bush Doctrine and Latin America

Abstract

Geostrategic resources are those natural components that are indispensable for the development of life on the planet; they are usually divided into three groups: biodiversity, petroleum, and water. These resources are extinguishable, nonrenewable, and irreplaceable (with the exception of petroleum). The scarcity and high demand of these resources lead to the creation of diverse means for their exploitation.
