Abstract
This book is about the evolution of institutions and the economy. In it we have developed a new analytical framework for explaining the ways in which institutions affect what we value and believe, what we strive for, the performance of economies, and the intricacies of human exchange. In essence most of the book shows how an economy whose costs exceed its benefi ts may nevertheless continue to expand.
