Abstract
I have been a fully registered GP, based in Limerick, Ireland, for over twenty years. I re-trained as a psychotherapist, in an attempt to fill the gaping holes in my medical training regarding how to deal with emotional and mental distress. My book, Beyond Prozac: Healing mental suffering without drugs (Lynch, 2001) was published in Ireland in April 2001. Six thousand copies have been sold in Ireland up to June 2003, a country whose population matches that of Manchester. Beyond Prozac was short-listed for the MIND Book of the Year award in 2002, and a second edition was published in the United Kingdom by PCCS books in 2004. Dorothy Rowe wrote the foreword.
