Abstract

In recent years the discussion of the economic effects of minimum wages has experienced a revival, strongly based on empirical estimations that yield missing negative or even positive employment effects of minimum wages. This discussion is often focused on the controversy over perfect-competition versus monopsony power in the labor market, but we also find alternative theoretical foundations for the analysis of the employment effects of the minimum wage.
