Abstract

David Halberstam, one of the most distinguished social and political writers in America, has faithfully chronicled the profound changes in the second half of the twentieth century and the challenges of the twenty-first century. His writing career started as a newspaper reporter when he covered the beginnings of the American civil rights movement. Then, for his reporting on the Vietnam War for the New York Times, he won a Pulitzer prize. He is well known for his influential and best-selling books that appeal to periods of American life, including The Best and the Brightest, The Powers That Be, The Fifties, Playing for Keeps, The Reckoning and Summer of ‘49.
