Bulgarian National Theatre ‘Ivan Vazov’: Traditionally Non-traditional

Abstract

Isn’t it outrageous: we stand up for the rights of all groups of interests and minorities, while, at the same time, the rights and interests of the nations, especially the small-size ones, get more and more overlooked! As if in the context of the ‘global village’ separate nations aren’t actually mere minorities! What’s more, the national tends to get mixed up with the nationalistic, i.e. it gets loaded with an outright negative connotation. Therefore: hats off to Sterijno Pozorje Festival in Novi Sad (Serbia) for the topic of its 2006 Symposium — National Theatres and Nationalistic Theatre - which put an emphasis on the difference between these two concepts!
