Abstract
The financial crises of the past ten years have intensified the debate on a new international financial architecture. Since the Mexican crisis in 1994 and 1995, financial markets have frequently been hit by severe crises: since 1945, there has been no decade with as many financial crises as the 1990s. The turmoil also affected countries which were, prior to the crisis, considered to be model pupils.
