Abstract
The most remarkable change in the world economy of the past decade has been the explosive increase of information technology (IT), first of all the Internet. Notwithstanding the current disillusionment with dot com companies, the Internet is seen as one of the key technologies of the 21st century. In consequence there are many issues which might affect transport demand and sustainability, ranging from the impact of changes in work and personal relations up to new ways in politics and the handling of conflicts. This chapter will pay attention primarily to the impact of e-commerce on transport demand and only briefly touch on some of the other points.
