Part of the book series: St Antony's Series ((STANTS))

Abstract

This study has sought to broaden the focus of the existing scholarship on Jordanian stability by concentrating less on the personality of King Hussein and more on the underlying establishment that has guided Jordan since its creation in 1921. Jordan’s inherent security weaknesses necessitated the creation of a ruling coalition that needed to accommodate domestic urban and tribal interests if the Hashemite state were to survive.
