Abstract
The primary interest in industrial relations as a vehicle for modernisation within the EU member states dictates the nature of the present study to a very significant degree. It necessitates that the book takes account of the EU as a region of extreme uneven development. It is crucial for a study of this nature to conceptualise European integration in terms of the relations between its economic cores and less-developed member states.
