Abstract

This chapter is concerned with the basic mechanics of the programme of empirical research reported in the remainder of the book. Its primary purpose is to describe the development and psychometric evaluation of the various research instruments employed in the study. Readers who are less interested in the precise technical details of the study may wish to by-pass or skim this chapter on first reading, returning to it for reference purposes, as and when necessary.
