Managing and Developing Staff

  • Chapter
Managing Residential Child Care

Abstract

This chapter is concerned with the way staff are managed and its relevance to the external management of children’s homes. This requires the use of two main bodies of work to inform an examination of the structures and processes involved. First, specialised findings in Wagner, Warner, the Support Force and ARCC, for example, have addressed specific issues relating to the nature of employment in the children’s residential sector. Their reports and recommendations centre on recruitment, training and development, the creation of appropriate skill bases within homes, status and the use of agency staff.
