The Role of Supranational Organizations and Social Partners

  • Chapter
Working Beyond 60

Abstract

International (OECD, ILO) and European organizations play an important role in disseminating information on various national approaches and promoting measures that can help member states in their efforts to improve their performance. In recent years the OECD and the European Union have adopted very similar objectives and recommendations for their members in the area of social and employment policies. In this chapter we shall focus on the European Union and summarize only briefly the OECD role, which has been referred to in other chapters (see Chapter 3).
