Abstract
Franco-German cooperation has always been a history of progress and setbacks, stagnation and revival. The Chirac–Schröder era is no exception to this rule, quite the opposite. Following the days of the Nice Summit in 2000, many were under the impression that the Franco-German couple was breathing its last breath, and to some European observers, the deterioration of Franco-German relations recalled, even more seriously, the crisis of confidence of the period 1969–74.
