Abstract
Women and men, young and old, those of us who join organizations opposing militarism and war bring with us a host of different experiences, hopes and fears, philosophies, objectives and styles. We feel ourselves to be part of something bigger than our local group, part of a movement, even a global movement. But are we a rag-bag of interests or a coherent collective actor? I wanted to know more about the make-up of our movements against militarism and war and for peace, the ways we diverge, how significant our differences are, and how well we hear each other. Over the course of two years I travelled to different countries to find out about groups, organizations and networks, listen to activists and share in some of their activities. I wanted to gain a sense of what we share, how strong and effective we are, or might become. This book is the result.
