Abstract
Most of the previous chapters have concentrated on energy supply. This chapter looks at ways to save energy and focuses on energy in buildings in the UK. In 2005, out of the total UK annual CO2 emissions of almost 153 MtC energy use in buildings contributed 61 MtC, 38 MtC from the domestic sector and another 23 MtC from the services sector (offices, schools, hospitals, etc) (DTI, 2006a). The question is how much of these emissions could be saved.
