Abstract
The Asia-Pacific region intersects all the major power centres of the world, except for Europe, and for decades has enjoyed sustained economic growth. Since the end of the Cold War, the Asia-Pacific countries have been striving to improve or enhance security cooperation in the new era. According to some scholars, ‘economic development and security have been policy priorities among at least the major powers’.1
