Abstract

As we have said before, the objective of Part I of this work is to inquire into the idea of the dissolution of individuality in Persian Sufism as an important obstacle to the development of the concept of the individual in Iranian ways of thinking. In this regard we are encountering two questions: (1) why, when studying the concept of man in Iranian thought, do we stress the theological view?; (2) why do we focus on the theological view of the relations of man with God within Islamic mysticism? In this chapter we will attempt to answer these questions.
