Abstract
Mexico offers a striking example of the political challenges posed by globalization. While there are compelling pressures to undertake free market reforms, these reforms threaten the economic well-being of various social groups and provoke popular resistance. State elites have scrambled to devise strategies which preserve neoliberal adjustment without jeopardizing regime stability.
