Abstract

Where might the kind of critical and cultural criminological research and analysis we undertake in Transgressive Imaginations take us1? In a recent talk at Durham University, Zygmunt Bauman (2011) offered the audience an invitation to develop an agenda for sociology. Drawing upon four of Bauman’s key points, we close this book by offering an invitation to develop an agenda for cultural criminology and towards a public criminology — in the twenty-first century — that connects with the idea of a radical democratic imaginary. We argue here that through an examination of transgressive imaginations, popular culture and the everyday we can both (a) engage a wider audience and (b) work with different publics through critical, cultural and participatory methodologies.
