Variations in Political Party Structures

  • Xiaoke Zhang
Part of the International Political Economy Series book series (IPES)

In order to explore the central argument of this book regarding the impact of political parties on capital market reforms, this chapter presents an analytical account of cross-country variations in party systems and organisational structures between Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand. It first discusses the analytical measures of party system concentration and organisational strength and then differentiates and locates the three countries on these two dimensions. The purpose is not to provide a full account of inter-party and intra-party configurations in the three countries but to highlight their variations as the primary determinants of different reform orientations and processes.
