Abstract

As Mexico City woke up at 7.19 a.m., on September 19, 1985, an earthquake of 8.1 on the Richter scale shook the metropolis for three minutes. At first everything was quiet, then people began to scream and call out to one another—the shocked, the injured, and the mournful.
