Abstract

In August 2003, in Chengdu, in south-west China’s Sichuan province, a telephone number consisting of eight eights was sold at auction for 2.33 million yuan (about US$280,723). The opening ceremony of China’s Olympics Games in Beijing on the eighth day of the eighth month (August 8) of 2008, began at 8 seconds and 8 minutes past 8 pm local time.
