Abstract
Talent, top talent, critical talent, and talent management – these are all related to the topic in question. But therein lies a problem in discussing talent: it seems that everyone has their own idea of what the word talent describes or captures. Broadly speaking, talent refers to the skills or capabilities that allow a person to perform a certain task. Michaels et al. (2001, p. xii) define talent as ‘the sum of a person’s abilities – his or her intrinsic gifts, skills, knowledge, experience, intelligence, judgment, attitude, character, and drive. It also includes his or her ability to learn and grow.’
