Abstract

Based on the discussion in the previous chapters, the main conclusions of this book are brought together in this chapter. As has been stated, the book deals with the impact of the TRIPS agreement on the pharmaceutical industry and the access to medicines in India, acknowledging that the introduction of the TRIPS compliant regime from 1 January 2005 marked a major shift in India’s public policy on the protection of intellectual property rights (IPRs) and will have important repercussions for several industries and sectors. However, the focus of this book is only on the pharmaceutical industry and healthcare in India.
