Abstract
The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is the site of one of the world’s worst ongoing humanitarian crises. The country suffered what has been called “Africa’s world war” from 1996 to 2003 from which almost 4 million people died, compared to the 228,000 dead and missing from the 2004 tsunami.2 Following a peace agreement in 2003, and with the help of the world’s largest and most expensive peacekeeping operation, the country held its first democratic elections in 40 years in 2006.
