Abstract
AREA AND POPULATION. The People’s Republic of Benin is bounded east by Nigeria, north by Niger and Upper Volta and west by Togo. The area is 112,600 sq. km, and the population, in 1976, 3 2m. The seat of government is Porto Novo (104,000 inhabitants); the chief port and business centre is Cotonou (178,000); other important towns are Abomey, Ouidah and Parakou. There are 6 administrative districts: Atakora, Borgou, Zou, Ouémé, Atlantique and Mono.
